Late Summer Plot----- More Eagle Large Lads!!!

On July 4th, I finally got a change to plant a bag of Eagle Seed's Large Lad Soybeans.   This small plots is located behind my home as a little test plot!

This is a corner that didnt get planted earlier in the year, so I planted a few rows here as well.

I am so impressed with these beans!!!  These pictures were taken 4 days after planting, on July 8th.
Talk about getting out of the ground quick!!!  

Look for a 30 day update late next week some time.  I think you will be amazed at how much these have grown!!

Another Eagle Soybean Plot in Perry County, Tennessee

This tract of land belongs to a TNDeer member who had contacted me through the Deer Talk forum.  It was a awesome tract of land, not far from Mousetail Landing State Park, right off the Tennessee River. 

It was a series of small plots, with lots of browse in between, and he even had a great orchard planted with  pear and apple trees.  We did'nt have time to snap many pictures, as we where trying to beat some rain, but our work paid off! 

Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program-Rutherford Co.

This was a very unique project that we kind of stumbled into.  I say we, as my father and I also have a construction/excavating company, and this customer had been approved to clear 7 acres of forest for wildlife food plots.  So after we started clearing, I made plans with the landowner and our local NRCS agent on what we would be planting.  Since this project was started in the later part of the spring, and our spring was one of the wettest on record, we had several delays on getting it sowed down.  We decided that a annual cover crop of Mancan Buckwheat would be sowed and left to stand till fall when we could work the ground again and sow a clover mixture.  Here are some shots of the clearing process, the prep of the soil and the planting of the Buckwheat.

Busy Spring!!

Well, Spring has given way to Summer here in Middle Tennessee and it has been a busy one to say the least!!   I have gotten to meet a lot of new customers/friends this spring as I worked on their properties and leases.  While I did sow some buckwheat on one farm, Eagle Soybeans seemed to be the most popular choice for spring time plantings. 

While this is my first time planting them, I am excited to say the least to see what they can do.  I even got a chance to plant a couple of bag at my place.  I will try to highlight some of the places that Ive worked in the next few blog post.  Thanks for following me in my journeys!

Soil Conservation---A practice we must continue!

I ran across this piece written by Chad Love the other day on the Pheasants Forever website.  It highlighted the success that we have had in preventing soil erosion by using different conservation methods.  While our efforts have worked wonders,  soil conservation is something that we can never stop, or slack off on, because it never stops.  Check out Chad's blog post here.

Follow up on a few fall food plots!

Over the last couple of weeks I have had the opportunity to check on some plots I installed last fall. On both of these farms, I used Hooper's Wildlife Fall mix and it turned out great!!  It consisted of Winter Wheat, Oats, and Winter Peas. 

SPRING IS ALMOST HERE!!!

Well guys and gals, Spring is right around the corner.   The wild onions and and the buttercups are in full bloom around Rutherford county.

 

Now that winter and deer season is behind us,  NOW is the time to start planning for those summer annual crops, and even those fall attractions plots.    Get out and get your soil samples and get those sent in.   There is no need in throwing your hard earned money away,  on high dollar seed and wasted fertilizer because you didn't know what to use.  I turned in some soil samples on my plots this week, and they were $8.75 a piece.  That is about as cheap as it gets folks!! 

I have several projects that I'm excited about this spring.  One happens to be in Chester county for one of our brave soldiers who is currently stationed in Afghanistan.  We are going to be planting 4 acres of Big Fellow Round Up Ready Soybeans.  These are produced by the Eagle Seed Company of Arkansas.

I also have a couple of farms to work in Lincoln County, where we are going to turn some new ground and sow some Buckwheat.  Buckwheat is a great reseeding annual that is a soil builder that deer and turkeys love.  About mid August, I will go in and disc it under and follow it with a Fall mix for a great hunting plot.
